The Art of Reflection

After looking at a few articles on reflective learning I put together this mind map showing the most important factors and information I found throughout the articles, on what is important to develop and learn to become a reflective learner. The basis of being a reflective learner is to work independently and be responsible for your own success. This is done through improving your work by taking on board feedback, but also understanding why that feedback was necessary.

Reflecting on what you have learnt can enable you to further understand things, especially if you find certain areas a struggle. Looking back on your work can make things clearer and easier to learn.
When looking at Dewey and Kolb’s theories on reflective learning I found Kolb’s easier to understand as its learning cycle explains how people learn individually and also explains a cycle of learning that applies to all. Kolb’s learning styles are simplified into four categories such as feeling, thinking, doing and watching.

It seems the most effective way of developing as a reflective learner is to create a reflective journal, where you can store information and question it as to how important it is, how can it benefit your learning, what did you learn and also did you struggle with any areas?
